At Greene Environmental Services, we understand that dealing with an underground or above ground storage tank (UST/AST) can be a complex and overwhelming process. That’s why we offer comprehensive services to help homeowners navigate this process and achieve a successful outcome.

After homeowner authorization, our team provides an initial inspection of the UST/AST to determine if there is a leak.

If a leak is found, our team reports its findings to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VADEQ) and obtains authorization for further investigative or cleanup work. We work closely with the VADEQ to secure approval for financial assistance through the Virginia Petroleum Storage Tank Fund (VPSTF) and then perform the necessary corrective work. This work may include:

  • Removal of petroleum from the tank and verification that there are no nearby wells or surface bodies of water
  • Removal of the tank and excavation of contaminated soils
  • Groundwater investigation, if required, to protect nearby resources
  • Provide water filtration or alternative source of water, if a drinking water well has been impacted.

If no leak is found, we provide the homeowner with a certification report and there is no further obligation.

At Greene Environmental Services, our team is trained to handle and properly address the situation, take the required corrective actions, and provide you with a report of activities and findings. Once the work has been completed the VADEQ will provide a closure letter for your records.
